Practices and rituals : orthodoxy vs. orthopraxy. Islam sits in the middle ( action infused with faith ) Is a ritual prayer, 5 times a day. Around dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and after dark. Around since they don"t want to be seen as worshiping the sun. Just use them as time markers: muezzin = caller to prayer, prayer with the mouth, and body, articulation of submission. Use whole body to pray and use whole body to express submission to god: raka"ah = set of prayer motions (hands up, bend, stand, head down, kneel, head down, look right, look left, done) Face mecca and the kabah (no longer jereusalem) Designated by a mithrab (nich in the wall showing the direction of mecca) Sermon later given from imam/scholar from a pulpit (minbar) Mulla = persian shiite prayer leader or scholar: wudu = ritual washing, main time for prayer is : jum"ah = gathering (for prayers) on friday afternoon.
