Leisure has potential as a tool for: change, empowerment, development, the positive of studying these potentially confrontational issues outweigh the negatives- so we should study it! Androcentrism is a pattern of thought that sees male experience as central and studies + evaluates women"s experiences by referring to those of men. We live in an androcentric world, whether people like it or not! Women cannot have leisure as they have no work to be away from". True leisure can only be practiced by a privileged class (which included very few women) Aristotle: the only slave for the poor man is his wife". Catharsis theory of play extended to all, even though the research behind it used only men. For all these examples, knowledge was developed by men, for men, and they simply assumed" that the knowledge would also apply to women. Men can separate work, leisure + family life more easily than women (rosemary deem)
