Document Summary
Much of the leisure that canadians take part in could easily be viewed as: morally marginal [at least by some canadians, criminal behavior, destructive, to the individual her/himself, to society at large, examples of purple leisure. All of the following could be considered leisure" in certain contexts: gambling, commercialized sex, drug/alcohol use, vandalism, cults. All of these can be leisure for the participants: gambling illegally, it is only legal in certain forms and in certain locations, buying sexual pleasure, via prostitution or pornography, vandalism, think about your own leisure, fun for the participants, costly to society, for almost everyone, there is plenty of unstructured leisure. What benefits derive from leisure: answers to these questions are the same for purple leisure as they are for more wholesome" leisure activities, because we like it, statement for consideration, whatever people do in their leisure is ok if it is what they want.
