The digital divide makes it more difficult for certain people to network, interact, contribute, and compete on equal footing. It is important to examine various ways in which we go online (phone/computer) When it comes to online social networking, diversity exists within and between generations. Young people are not all exposed to videogames and social networking sites to the same degree. Older individuals have online social networks that are growing dramatically. Women of all ages tend to take fewer technology courses at the high school level, and are less apt to graduate with degrees in it fields. This impacts the nature of women"s online activities and their willingness to expand and diversify their social networks.
