Adolescents value their parents advice regarding future-oriented goals, such as finances, education, fashion, dating. The need for youth autonomy has been overstated in pop culture youth are more resilient when their parents know what their teens are up to and have continued involvement with their activities. The shift in power equation may lead to role conflict for parents. Parents must learn to walk the thin line between support and control. This is difficult as the teen is still very dependent on their parent but also seeks more control. This relationship can be more difficult if the relationship during childhood was strained. Parents are encouraged to get into the habit of asking the teen of their opinion. It is a way of initiation conversation and gives the parents some insight into their teen"s thinking process. The actions of parents speak louder than words. It is important that the parent is aware of their own moral choices.
