BIOL 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Annelid, Sexual Reproduction, Osmoregulation
Document Summary
As the fluid passes through the tubes, cells reclaim useful molecules. They are more complex and pump body fluid out, reclaim useful molecules, and function for excretion and osmoregulation: molluscs: also have metanephridia, arthropods: most groups ha(cid:448)e (cid:373)eta(cid:374)ephridia, (cid:271)ut i(cid:374)se(cid:272)ts do(cid:374)"t. For e(cid:454)(cid:272)retor(cid:455) s(cid:455)ste(cid:373), i(cid:374)se(cid:272)ts have an organ called malpighian tubules, that pump in salt, water and nitrogenous wastes. They have an open circulatory system so ammonia is being generated all over, and all of the waste (especially nitrogenous waste) along with water and ions are forming uric acid. Waste accumulated in the kidneys drains into the ureter and stored in the urinary bladder, and it gets eliminated through the urethra. The kidney has an outer later called renal cortex, and under them the renal medulla. In the centre there is a hollow space called renal pelvis. Urine drains from the cortex and the medulla into the pelvis, removing waste and following into the ureter.
