PSYC 363 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Depth Perception, Retina, Binocular Rivalry
Document Summary
Accommodation: process by which lens changes shape to fine-tune the focus of the image on the retina. Process by which our eyes move together (converge) to maintain focus on near objects and move to parallel(diverge) to maintain focus on far objects. The angle formed between the lines of gaze of the 2 eyes decreases as the distance increases. Angle of convergence can only get so small. Will help you with things that are at an arm"s length, but not for things that are farther (like a tree in the distance) Depends on 1 eye, not both eyes motion parallax: as an observer moves, nearby objects appear to move rapidly across the visual field while far object appear to move more slowly (appear to move, not actually moving) Closer object will move more on the retina. Deletion and accretion: movement in the retinal image due to sideways movement (relative to observer)
