Analysing the bible in its historical context. Analysing the literary nature of the bible. Literary historical criticism: a combination of the two above. Some specific types of biblical criticism 1. Analysis of the text as we have it: Comparing different (ancient) copies of the bible to determine the most original text. Scholars try to find and correct scribal errors. Remember, for over 15 centuries the bible was copied by hand. Analysis of the possible sources the author used. Analysis of how the author redacted (edited) her/his sources. Some specific types of biblical criticism 2. Analysis of how the sources were passed on in their written form. Analysis of the form or genre of the sources in their oral form. Analysis of the written text for oral techniques and forms.
