ANAT 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Nervous Tissue, Connective Tissue, Histology
Document Summary
Lecture 4 - the tissue level of organization part i. Tissues consists of groups of similar types of cells, with similar embryonic origin and act together to perform common functions. Histology is the science that deals with the study of tissues. The body is composed of four basic types of tissues. Surface epithelium which covers body surfaces (skin) and some organs and lines the interior of respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Glandular epithelium: secretory portion of glands (e. g. thyroid, adrenal, and sweat glands) Protection and support from the connective tissue proper bone, and cartilage. Stores energy in fat and provides immunity in blood. In the process, muscular tissue generates heat that warms the body. Detects the changes inside and outside the body. Respond by generating impulses that activate glands or muscles. Primary germ layers within the embryo (endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm) Endoderm which forms the epithelial lining of the gi and respiratory systems.
