BIOL 2030 Lecture Notes - Lecture 33: Frameshift Mutation, Missense Mutation, Nonsense Mutation
Document Summary
Lecture 33: mutaions and their efects on phenotype. Can occur in somaic/non-reproducive/body cells of mulicellular organisms: ex. Not transmited to gamete cells not inherited by ofspring: in most cases, has litle to no efect. Can have serious efects, however, such as cancer. Can occur in germ line cells: occurs in cells that give rise to gametes. Occurs during producion of eggs, sperm, pollen, etc. Chromosomal mutaions: afect the number of chromosomes (e. g. aneuploidy: monosomy or trisomy) or structural abberaions (e. g. translocaions, deleions, duplicaions) Point mutaions: alteraions involving one or a few changes in the dna, base subsituions. Purine changed to a purine, or a pyrimidine changed to another pyrimidine. Purine changed to a pyrimidine, or vice versa: afect on phenotype. Mutated codon sill codes for the same amino acid: protein sequence is unchanged. Codon with mutaion codes for a diferent amino acid: changes the protein sequence may or may not afect.
