Two vhf virus families of concern: filoviruses and arenaviruses. Vhf is used to describe a severe multi-organ syndrome. This diagram illustrates all the clinical presentations that are possible with vhf. Note that these presentations do not occur all the time. Fever and other non-specific symptoms: headache, malaise, myalgias, arthralgias, nausea, diarrhea. Shock: life-threatening because body is not getting enough blood flow hypovolemic shock: hemorrhage: the bleeding is rarely life-threatening, despite the name, most are not hemorrhagic, many cause self-limiting petechial rashes.
