PHYL 2041 Lecture 6: PHYL 2041 Lecture 6
Document Summary
Phyl 2041 lecture 6 september 27, 2018. The nervous system is a communication and control network that allows an organism to interact with its environment (includes both the internal and external environment) General functions: sensory detection by the afferent/ sensory division, expression of behaviour by the efferent/ motor division. Central nervous system (cns) consists of the brain and spinal chord. Peripheral nervous system (pns) consists of affected/sensory division and efferent/ motor division. The brain then give order to the efferent division of the peripheral nervous system to cause either muscle contraction or gland secretion. The efferent division can be further divided into the somatic motor system, which controls skeletal muscles, and hence allow human locomotion. Another system is called the autonomic nervous system and controls the activity of the internal organs. Ans can innervate the smooth muscle, cardiac muscles, and glands. They control muscle contraction and the secretion of the glands.
