Visual - 0. 1 second ( once you see it and move on it take 0. 1 seconds) Audio - seconds (listening sinks in more than seeing) The memory will decay unless we pay attention to it. Working memory - casts up to 30 seconds. Capacity is 5 to 9 items (average is 7 ) Have to rehearse the information to store it in long term memory (ctm) If not available then problem caused by - encoding, consolidation, retrieval failure. We do these things without using our memory system. They remain very clear in our memory. Beginning information most likely to be recalled. Children learn the first letters in the alphabet and the end letters easily. Information in the middle is made difficult to retain.
