Document Summary

There is not enough pressure on the artery. The cuff is there is dramatically slow down the blood flow. In order to hear the sounds, blood flow must be stopped, then when pressure is slowly released, the blood rushes through the vein resulting in the thumps and taps. You would expect the blood pressure readings to be higher due to the nature of greater elasticity of arteries around the calf. The abpi (ankle brachial pressure index) also shows that pressure at the ankles should have higher pressure than the arm. Describe four sources of error when recording blood pressure from an exercising subject. Systolic blood pressure changes dramatically due to interaction between lactic acid and atp within the bloodstream. The change is rapid, increasing at a rate of 5% per minute, eventually plateauing at 25%. Once exercise is completed, blood pressure drops quite severely. Diastolic blood pressure change is almost the opposite, where there is minimal change within pressure.
