Document Summary

Email david. harpp@mcgill. ca if you need to make arrangements to write an exam. 3 live lectures (jan. 9, feb. 6, mar. 20) the rest is online. There are 10 course moderators to help students prepare for exams. Everything we eat makes up our bodies. We are made of many chemicals (basic building blocks of all matter) All the things we eat are converted into substances such as protein and fats to develop our bodies and maintain life. Populations that eat more fruits and vegetables have lower rates of disease, cancer, arthritis, and diabetes (there are many theories to explain why this is true) One theory suggests that these foods contain antioxidants. Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals we breathe into our bodies. Free radicals attack important biomolecules in the body. Evidence to see if it is true: there was an experiment where people drank smoothies, but the rise in antioxidant levels in their blood was short-lived.
