Document Summary

Hippocrates: those desiring to lose weight should perform hard work before food. They should take their meals after exertion and while still panting from fatigue. They should, moreover, eat only once a day and take no baths and sleep on a hard bed and walk naked as long as possible . The imagination diet: think of something you would like to eat, don"t actually eat it, just thinking helps curb the appetite, take a piece of cotton, moisten it in orange juice, and eat it, chew on ice. The science behind it all : risk factor for, heart disease, stroke, hypertension, cancer, diabetes, bmi: body mass index, weight (kg)/ height (m), if more than 30, considered obese, exceptions: muscle mass. Bmi does not distinguish between fat and muscle: waist to hip ratio, greater the ratio, greater the stomach size, greater bmi, greater waist hip ratio= greatest risk.
