ANAT 214 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Epiglottis, Pharynx, Thyroidectomy
Document Summary
The pharynx is a fibromuscular tube hanging from our sphenoid bone and our occipital bone. It is closing off the anterior nasal cavity and oral cavity. It is subdivided into 3 sections: nasopharynx the uppermost, it is in relation with the nasal cavity. As we describe, the choana is the border where the nasal cavity is becoming the nasopharynx: oropharynx oropharyngeal isthmus is the boundary between the oral cavity to the oropharynx, laryngopharynx . Nasopharynx: which is the upper part of the pharynx, it lies directly above the soft palate. It communicates through the choanae to the nasal cavity. In the nasopharynx, we have the eustachian tube opening, also called the pharyngotympanic tube that links the nasopharynx to the middle ear. We can notice the salpingopharyngeal fold ( al for fold or arches, salpingo for tube) the tube that is leading to the pharynx, it creates a fold which is composed of a muscle covered by mucosa.
