Document Summary

In 1938, they made the link of what the agent was for q fever (same as nine mile disease) These diseases were studied separately, but ended up to be the same thing. Cattle sheep and goat are the main animals that are affected by this disease. Caused by bacteria that needs a host cells, but the spores can survive outside cells, and be dispersed in the environment, increasing the possibility of contamination. Ticks can be intermediate hosts, but they are not mandatory for the pathogenesis of the bacteria. The disease can be contracted through feed, feces and urines, ticks, so any fluid in contact with contaminated material lead to contamination. Usually humans contract the disease from animals and not from other humans. Humans can contract the bacteria from many ways from infected animals. Farm workers and people in contact with farm animals that are potentially infected are more at risk to contract the disease.
