Ethnoarchaeology: method based on the assumption that we can determine past behavior from looking at current behavior. We draw a correlation from modern data and past data. It is influenced by our own ideas and assumptions though. Archaeological past and our theories on how to read it. If a given ethnographic society( ethnographic source) has a certain set of material and a set of associated practices: And an ancient society has a analogous/comparable set of material culture (a)- then associated human practices are likely to be analougs as well. Regularity to what we observe allows us to observea correlation. Material culture links human practices. (archaeological subject and ethnographic source) Criticism: assumption that contemporary societies that are used in analogies are largely static (technologically, but also socially)= they use ancient technologies and are still organized in primitive ways. They want to understand the ancient environment and humans interaction with it.
