This film is about the first nations community in vancouver. Two ways of looking at the film: romanticizes and idealizes the natives. Salvages communities that will be taken over by the europeans and humanistic anthropologists need to document these people before they get wiped out (problem!! Because they didn"t take note on any contact with other cultures and with technology and stuff) Salvage ethnography: transcribing what the past was like before these. Europeans came (this is what like edward was doing in his three movies) Traditions practiced in this film are reconstructions that were passed down from generations of what was practiced at the time. Curtis thought to show what was authentic about the natives at the time. It is a way to preserve culture. He was collaborating with local natives on practices that were dying out. It is a document of the ingenuity of the community in this film.
