Psychoanalysis: freudian ideas, some are critical of this because there are blind spots related to sexuality and other things. Feminist art historians have therefore used and critiqued psychoanalysis. One can support and be critical of some psychoanalytical methods at the same time. Sigmund freud was the father and inventor of psychological analysis. Impulses sexual desire is the essence of human life. Oedipus complex: killed his dad, married his mom, blinded himself in guilt. Blinding is a form of castration, all men experience the oedipus complex and castration anxiety in freud"s mind: this is critiqued by art historians. Leonardo da vinci virgin and child with saint anne and saint john the baptist. Freud thought da vinci had an over sexualized attachment to his mother and a homosexual orientation: art historians critique his idea that there is a connection between attachment to the mother and homosexuality.
