BIOL 202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Quantitative Trait Locus, Homologous Recombination, Odds Ratio

38 views3 pages

Document Summary

Loci that underlie variation that we see for complex traits. Environmental effects and effects of segregating genes. Example: beefmaster and sungold tomato crosses: make f1 cross with the beefmaster parent to get bc1 generation. Range of size due to different gene loci regulating tomato size. In bc1, if no crossovers have happened in the f1 generation, the progeny will be a beefmaster tomato (b/b for all loci) and a tomato with the same genome as the f1 generation. Homologous recombination swaps parts of the chromosome to create a recombinant b/s chromosome. Find association between allele type and fruit type to find the approximate location of the genes which have an influence. The | means if the second condition is filled : a low odds ratio means that there is a low probability of the gene of interest being close to the marker locus.
