Document Summary

Recall: introduce fat, specific fatty acids, and how acetyl-coa source of c for fa and transported into cytoplasm. Acc: makes 7 times reaction happen of malonyl-coa. 3 domains: one biotin carboxylated, one carrier domain, one trans-carboxylase. 2 active sites and 1 carrier protein (arm that act as a tether between the two active sites) Acc is a rate-limiting step of fa synthesis (most important regulation point for fa synthesis: small molecule regulation, regulation based on energetics of the cell, hormonal regulation. Glucagon, adrenaline activates camp-dependent kinase leading to inactivation of acc. Insulin stimulates dephosphorylation (via protein phosphatase) of acc, leading to activation of acc. Amp kinase acts as a fuel gauge to regulate acc. Note that malonyl-coa acts as a regulatory molecule, inhibits transport of fatty acyl-coa into the mitochondria to be broken down. Take 7 malonyl-coa and 1 acteyl-coa and make product of whole process => palmitoyl- Fas linked up c-c bond and keep the chain saturated.
