Orthodox christianity also comes from fall of second temple in 70. Notion of jewishness changes, disjunction with pre-rabbinic judaism. Priestly family, historian of jewish history: antiquities and jewish war. Josephus claims to have practiced many kinds of judaism and uses this authority to state that judaism didn"t cause war in 66. Josephus predicted vaspasian was going to be emperor --; not popular amongst jews. Goal: war was not fault of judaism, but of a few (zealots). First person that led to the destruction in 66: judas the galilean, fourth philosophy. Christians found josephus" texts valuable, many people forgot about him because wrote in greek. Many different types of judaism, some become other forms of judaism, some became. Essenes: connected to dead sea scrolls, out of power high priests. Not always isolated, usually live among other jews.
