Document Summary
Closed loop design of the circulatory system: systemic & microcirculation. Heart (cid:862)the pump(cid:863): (cid:272)reates the (cid:858)pressure head(cid:859) (cid:374)eeded to (cid:373)o(cid:448)e blood through circulatory system. The systemic arterial circulation: large, low resistance (high conductance) tubes conducting blood from left heart to various organs, under high pressure, lower compliance, more rigid, more elastic recoil. The microcirculation: arterioles: small tubes within tissue that control tissue blood flow: high resistance (low conductance) vessels in the conservation of mass model, capillaries: thin tubes allowing exchange of substances (e. g. , O2, co2, nutrients) between blood and tissue: venules: small tubes within tissue for collection of blood from capillaries. The systemic venous circulation: large, low resistance (high conductance) tubes conducting blood back to the right heart, under very low pressure; has less elastic recoil than arterial system. Arterial blood pressure is the force exerted by blood against the arterial walls and is determined by the relationship between cardiac output (co arterial inflow) and total.
