Ibsen’s Career early “poetic” plays “Love’s Comedy” 1862 written in rhyming verse written in very artificial romantic language About: Falk wants to be a poet and thinks to be great, he needs to be constantly experiencing passionate, romantic love. Thinks that, therefore, he can’t ever get married, because that will destroy such love. Falk and his young love decide they will ignore society’s conventions and live without marriage in true love. She then forces him to admit that, even if they continue this, he cannot guarantee they will never fall out of love. The only way to guarantee their love will always be powerful and true is for her to leave him.
