The evolution of the modern world system has distinctive evolutionary changes. At the end of the 18th century, the new technologies of the industrial revolution brought about the emergence of a global economic system. Colonization is seen as a mechanism that brought about the core-periphery system. If you look at the way infrastructure was placed during colonization was for the purpose of resource extraction: countries start developing with what is already established and there, pre-existing core and periphery relationships still has an impact today. Global distribution of agricultural practices is pretty diverse. Subsistence agriculture: farming for direct consumption by the producers, not for sale. Commercial agriculture: farming primarily for sale, not for direct consumption.
