Produce cacao, maize, cochineal (bug that gives red dye), wool, wheat, cotton, textile, silver; attract european investors. In this area encomienda is the first to arrive; displace indigenous peoples to the islands (with lands difficult to cultivate); pushed out of the areas where the lands were the best.
