Hitler sent a telegram opposing the sentence and although many said that this disqualified the nazis, they still gained votes: when hitler came to power they were amnestied. German national people"s party and the centre party he could convince the president that there would be stability and chance for recovery (papen persuaded the president of this) hitler agreed to the coalition with the centre.
