MIMM 212 Lecture 4: MIMM 214 Lecture 4.docx
Document Summary
Lymphocyte activation occurs in the regional secondary lymphoid organ. The problem with the immune system is that it needs to act as a prepared system to tackle the infections occurring in the body. This determines the dynamic nature of the system. We don"t have a single organ taking care of the infection- we have a group of cells and organs working in conjunction to get rid of an infection. This will involve the balance of where organs and cells meet. Those lymphocytes will then go into the blood and circulate. They will go to the other tissues, as well as go to the lymphatic organs to circulate in the lymphoid fluid and from there back into the blood through the thoracic duct. This releases everything into the ivc and back into the heart. There is a functional anatomy to the lymph nodes. Cells will get in through the afferent lymphatic vessels.
