Atlantic records in muscle shoals, alabama: like stax, muscle shoals studio had their own house band called the swampers, but this band was all-white members, known for being a racially integrated studio environment. But some people have leveled some criticism against muscle shoals for this integration only going one way; white guys could play soul and gospel, but black musicians weren"t playing country music at muscle. Smooth, uptown, sweet, and pop : most other labels: record a few times, pick the best of the bunch, motown: mic each instrument individually, can mix them, do post-production editing, overdubbing, etc.
