Lecture 6: rock n" roll: today: the transition from rhythm and blues to rock n" roll in the 1950s, chuck berry, little richard, elvis presley, rock n" roll in the popular press + anti-rock political campaigns. From rhythm and blues to rock n" roll: the phrase rock n roll" is a bit hard to pinpoint doesn"t have an origin story like some other genres. It popped up in gospel, blues, and swing recordings in the 1940s. It wasn"t popularized until the mid-1950s, when it emerged as a particular style upbeat tempo with a new blend of r&b and counry music. Chuck berry: prototypical rock n" roller from st. louis" singer, songwriter, guitarist, musically, he points to t-bone walker and other country blues men from r&b movement as inspiration. Playing for themselves having a good time playing their own music but the audience is bored. I can"t write about something which i haven"t experienced.
