Surrounded the British army and kicked them out.
George Washington, faced with a problem:
• didn’t defeat the British, they evacuated Boston. They were allowed to
leave.
• Crown demands more efforts from the army.
British are not in Boston anymore, they went to Canada. Meaning they can
attack where they want and when they want.
As a commander, you have o figure out where they will attack next.
George thinks they will attack NY. And he was right.
NY, NJ, PN are more divided in their loyalty for the British Empire.
The plan is once NY, NJ, and PN see the British flag, they would become
loyal again to them.
If the revelation fails: the people will be considered traders to the crown.
They will lose their property and will end up in jail. Leaders, will go to
London and will be trialed and executed for trading the British.
The British return and hit NY City. The Islands are shut off and beaten. They
area looks like it is getting wiped out. They capture one of the main forts,
and take 25% of the continental army with them. It looks like a disaster.
The only thing that sniffs out and helps them are the Howe Brothers. Richard
Howe, admiral in the royal Navy. William, his brother, leading the British
army. They are very confident, and good military officers. They represent a
military clash, and think that the king had screwed things with the
Americans. They sympathy with the Americans. They think that the conflicts
were started because of the King.
Howe brothers, call a truth with the Americans right when they were about
to take over NY. They write to Washington saying, they would like to talk to
lay out terms.
• Howe Brothers say: what is you guys surrender, and British says its
all good and we take care of the point. And proved that Americans cant
beat British. And work out a deal

Washington sends a letter with the other congenital houses. And they meet.
They talk about everything, and discus the letter.
They asks where were the Howe brothers 2 years ago. And that they already
called for their Independence and that they want it.
1776- Washington is pushed around, army retreats, and kicked out of the
state and across NY.
At the time, British are the best trained military army in the world, however,
they are small in size.
Americans don’t have an army, the continental army start to create an army
of their own, so there can be stability. Militants were soldiers/ units that
come for 6 to 9 months, train for the army and than leave and go back to
their homes.
• Basically, New York militants would not go to NJ and battle, they just
go home.
George wanted to keep and army in the field. As long as there is an army
that the British has to find and fight, Americans will stay alive.
Many outsiders come and help Americans fight:
*Nobles from France, come to America to fight, because they read the
Delectation and thought Independence is something worth fighting for.
*Polish Nobles who come and help Americans fight, because they dream of
independence.
4 volunteers come and help with the American dream.
The Americans focus on the French and to see if they can recognize the
Americans and independence and help them fight the British. (huge jump).
Requires battle field victories.
1776- British begin to attack the Americans, pushing us out of Philadelphia.
Which was kind of the capital.

*George decided to divide his army (because in the war he kept the army
together and had stress on building supply during the winter, starvation of
men, it had allowed the army to strike out, it was too much, and couldn’t
keep the army supplied)
George stays in one group near Philadelphia. Keeps army there to put
pressure on the army there.
The other Army goes to NY. He is trying to threaten the British and make
them not know where they are going to strike.
British found out that they had loyalties and a spy network that spies on
Americans.
Plan:
Pushes out of Canada towards the gates of NY. Clinton launches an attack on
Canada. Philadelphia, Howe, sent people to Canada. After they attack Gates,
they turn over and attack George.
Requires to leave the centers all at the same time to hit just at the right
time. Once they begin marching out south, they will be cut off with the
British officers.
The day comes, and one starts to march to NY. Clinton, decides that this
thing doesn’t work, and doesn’t go and attack NY.
In Phili Howe saw that the people like to spend time with the other people,
therefore they don’t go to NY and fight.
British forces that meet at Saratoga, fight the most important battle of the
war: because British are defeated. Johnny Burgoyne, is forced to turn in his
sword and the surrender.

Saratoga is Important:
• it was a victory for the Americans against British.
