PATH 300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Common Bile Duct, Cystic Duct, Myocardial Infarction
Document Summary
Liquid biopsy : look at indicators in blood samples. Anatomy : common bile duct comes in the gallbladder, bile stored in the gallbladder. When we eat : gallbladder contracts and secretes bile in common bile ducts, then goes to the duodenum. Output from the pancreas ends in the ampulla of vater (same for the common bile duct) Major constituents : pigment derived from the bile and break down products start of with hb and cholesterol. Mostly mixed, but sometimes pure cholesterol stone. Chronic hemolysis (break down excess amount of rbc -> overload the ability of the enzymes in the liver to conjugate it => increase unconjugated bilirubin secreted => can give brown stones) People who are obese and have excess cholesterol secreted in the bile -> liver not able to handle it => cholesterol stones. Chole = bile ; lithiasis = stone ; cholangitis : in ammation of the duct ; cholecystitis :
