Fluoride in toothpaste = drug that is used everyday. Babies have high sa to volume ratio for skin so we need to be careful what we use on them. Structure: epidermis, dermis (contains blood vessels, hair follicles, various glands) Sebaceous gland located next to hair follicle, secretions help lubricate the skin: nerve endings send touch and pain info to the brain. Sunburn melanocytes increase production and insertion of melanin into keratinocytes, a reaction to uv injury, ppl with freckles more prone to sunburn bc there is very little pigment in between freckles. Tattoos insoluble ink penetrates the skin and stays there. Skin structure is adapted to location palms and bottoms of feet are thicker, behind the ear is thin. Behind the ear = good place to apply patches (transdermal) to prevent motion sickness.
