Sunburn melanocytes increase production and insertion of melanin into keratinocytes, a reaction to uv injury, ppl with freckles more prone to sunburn bc there is very little pigment in between freckles. Tattoos insoluble ink penetrates the skin and stays there. Skin structure is adapted to location palms and bottoms of feet are thicker, behind the ear is thin. Behind the ear = good place to apply patches (transdermal) to prevent motion sickness.
