Remember that not all drugs work in specific regions of the body, rather they can take effect into other areas as well (e. g. cns) Environmental stimulus: acute reactions developed in order to prevent the effects of the drug. Relates to how your cns has conditioned itself to adapt ahead of time. The more you repeat a behaviour of drug consumption, the more your cns will adapt in order to compensate for your habits: ex: alcohol vs. Cns adapts to specific conditions, and once altered, can not. Symptoms increase each day and then peak around days 1-3. Acute phase of withdrawal: this occurs with opioid addicts going cold turkey. Where you feel opposite to that of the drug (e. g. alcohol is a cns depressant, as a result, the acute phase will demonstrate cns excitation) It could take months for the person to not want to continue taking the drug.
