PHAR 562 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Glycosylation, Glymphatic System, Protein Folding
Document Summary
Diseases of the cns developmental disorders (autism, connectivity), addiction, depression, adhd, schizo, bipolar disorder, epilepsy. When there is degeneration: motor neuron disease impairment in muscle innervation, ataxia loss of voluntary mvt, cerebellum. A more specific form of motor neuron disease originating in the cerebellum: spinal muscular atrophy early impairment of muscle innervation, dementia general term to describe impairment of memory and cognitive functions. Progressive supranuclear palsy: multiple sclerosis degeneration of the myelin sheath, has a variety of symptoms. Spectrum of disorders: from als to frontotemporal dementia (ftd) The motor unit is the basic unit of motor function. A motor neuron and the group of muscle fibers it innervates charles. Upper motor neurons (umn) derive from the motor cortex or bs: project to lower motor neurons through the sc via glutamatergic synapses. Lower motor neurons (lmn) located in the sc: mediate all voluntary mvt. Special cranial nerve lower motor neurons : nuclei located in the bs, innervated tongue and eye.
