PHGY 210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary Vein, Pulmonary Circulation
Document Summary
In the previous lecture: we talked about the air going from outside into the lungs (or from the lungs to the outside) ventilation. Today we are going to talk about the oxygen and the carbon dioxide in the blood (normal partial pressure of these gases in the air, blood and alveoli). Then, we are going to talk about the blood flow in the pulmonary and systemic circulation. Next lecture we are going to talk about how o2 and co2 are transported in blood. Important picture: shows the partial pressure of o2 and co2 in air (from calculation) then in the alveoli and in the blood everywhere in the body. The blood vessel carry oxygen to these cells and they need to transport the co2 that is produced by these cells back to the lung so that we can breathe it out. The values that we see is in a balance between values in air and what our cells need.
