O hyperparathyroidism- caused by a benign growth of the parathyroid. It never develops into an adenoma, which is a mystery. 1,25d3 and ca: vitamin d- most western diets are vit d deficient. Uv light pings the 7-dehydrocholesteral and make vit: therefore you need uvb. Cholesterol is always made in the cell, this is an add on with another bond to cholesterol (making the 7 dehydrocholesterol). Vit d is available from limited dietary sources (cod liver oil, fatty fish). Pth is also increased: depressed by high ca o in northern countries, absence of uvb may lead to vit d deficiency and deficient bone mineralization (rickets in growing individuals). Low vit d in adults leads to osteomalacia (soft bone). Synthesis mat be defective under conditions of renal failure- deficient 1-hydroxylation: vitamin d was discovered as the cure for rickets- disease for bone growth, occurring young.
