PHGY 314 Lecture 5: Brandon - lecture 5
Document Summary
Overview: attractor dynamics of hdcs and grid cells, oscillatory interference model of time and grid cells, boundary vector cell and grid cell models of place cells, encoding and retrieval model using theta oscillations, 2-stage model of hippo consolidation. Vestibular cortex: signaling angular velocity of the animal (cw vs ccw rotations) Ec: place cells, grid cells, hdcs border cells. Recall that ahv = angular head velocity cells. Hdcs: generate grid cells and boundary cells . Hippo: generates place cells, fxn of pattern completion/separation . Lec: receives and feeds info into the hippo, single items or configurations of cues. So far, the data suggests that an interaction between dorsal tegmental nucleus and lateral mammillary nucleus is critical for generating the head direction cell signal. Lesion of the postsubiculum does not impair adn hdcs. Attractor models require recurrent excitation (of nearby neurons) and lateral inhibition (of neighbours that are further away)
