The content of the journey is the journey itself

The journey is to meander, it is to get lost

He’s critical of certain assumptions made in the philosophical tradition
If you hadn’t gotten lost, you wouldn’t see the things you see = it’s not about being linear
This is one of Heidegger’s insights in the way thought proceeds - challenges classic philosophical tradition
He’s not saying that the philosophical tradition is wrong, it just hasn’t noticed certain things about itself
Markers aren’t a guarantee of a certain outcome

The notion of clue is crucial to Heidegger
Introductions serve as clue - so we want to pay close attention to the introductions of Being andm` Time
He’s open to the idea that there are other ways to approach phenomenology besides the way he does

Things become uncovered
They were missed the first time
So going over your steps isn’t just mere repetition
Something new occurs
To thinks about what that might mean in terms of thought and philosophy, and what it says to us about the
phenomena itself
This isn’t just a metaphor - this is in a certain sense, the way many phenomena unconceal themselves
“I’ve walked down this street many times before but I’ve never seen this before.”
This is a possible way when we talk about getting to the things themselves
