Approaches to the study of third world politics. Center-periphery or metropolis-satellite relationship is reproduced within third world societies: Comprador elite small, wealthy bourgeoisie, with transnational ties to first world business interests. Large mass of urban and rural poor. Given these relationships, third world development is, for dependency theorists, essentially a product of: Nature of the relationship with the west and the world capitalist market. Political and institutional choices at t1 will create and foreclose political policy options at tx. Could be constitutions themselves, could be norms resulting from those constitutions. Was at first dominated by army (legacy of decades) When they wrote a new constitution, it was simply a tweak of the old constitution. Structure of parliament looked a lot like the old system with some small changes. Having had a constitution since 1971, debates were shaped by prior constitution. Made it easier to suggest modifications to something people know than to start from scratch.
