Perhaps more progress on economic development but not enough politically or socially but it varies by region. Are they the top-down like the un millennium goals- institutional efforts or from civil society grassroot efforts. Inequality between women and men in education/literacy, income. Literacy rates( as percentage of male lit rates)- core indicator of education more broadly, correlates with womens employment and income and political participation- more basic indicator, we usually use more composite measures like w/poverty. Gender inequality index(gii)*****: 3 dimensions- reproductive health, empowerment, labor force, participation. Gender empowerment measure(gem): includes income rates, share of professional/managerial jobs, share of political positions. The kind of employment that women have- like positions vs. regular public sector ones. And right to hold political office is something else.
