In many countries there are diaspora relationships usually working the other way around: usually you have an old country, people move somewhere else like north america and keep their ties to the old land, ex. Lots of italians in canada have some connection with italy: ex. In the us, immigrants that came from the baltic states became an active lobby during the cold war, trying to persuade the us govt to help their brethren in their homeland. Israel is seen as the homeland of the jewish people. Jews in the diaspora were dispersed after the destruction of the temple. In the past yrs, french jews have been making aliyah to israel in record numbers.
