Document Summary
We receive a stimulus -> subjective experience -> body responds. > result from our interpretations of our psychological reactions. > somatic marker theory (damasio)-> we are scared because we tremble -> body then cognition. > behavioural and physiological reactions give rise to emotions outside of our awareness. > body/brain without cognition -> just smile, you"ll feel better. > emotion and bodily reactions are activated simultaneously. > stimulus -> thalamus -> subjective experience or body response (arousal) > physiological arousal and attributions of arousal to emotion- inducing event -> body and cognition. > stimulus -> body response -> interpretation -> subjective experience. Amygdala is important organ in the brain for emotion. Brain controls emotion in three levels: neocortex (logic or cortex, limbic system (emotions -> amygdala, hippocampus, reptilian brain (action/survival) Helps us understand why we do things. Trying to balance out all stimuli (parasympathetic and sympathetic) We are motivated to seek an optimum level of arousal.
