PSYC 213 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Iconic Memory, Recall (Memory), Sensory Memory
Document Summary
Some aspect of memory is involved in everything you do. You know who you are through what you can remember. What you actually remember may not be the objective truth. People were asked to draw a bike by memory. Most bikes were different and kind of wonky. This is because: memory does not store literal presentations or visual images, when we remember, we reconstruct it. Visual information held very briefly, fading within milliseconds. Afterimage that persists after an object has been taken away. The light that follows a sparkler, that isn"t really there. Sound information can remain in this system before meaning is assigned to it. Odors are associated with very strong access to memories of past experiences. How sensory organs are connected to the brain. Direct link between olfactory bulb and a brain region critical for memory - the hippocampus. Presented a visual display of 3x4 letters very quickly.
