Document Summary

Psyc 215 lecture 11 attitude changes following behaviour. Someone"s behaviour doesn"t line up with their attitude. Sometimes people change their attitudes to follow their behaviour. Subject asked to do something very boring, then was asked to tell the next person that it really interesting. *they had justification for lying for so they had no need to actually believe their lie. *they convince themselves they actually liked it since there wasn"t actual justification for telling someone they liked it; they felt uncomfortable for actually liking it. Attitude usually changes only when the person judges there is insufficient justification was any for their behaviour. *cognitive dissonance: attempt to make sense of something with little motivation to do so. 1 = strongly opposed, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 = strongly agree. Attitude change comes when the behaviour is experiences as freely chosen, without any obviously sufficient justification .
