Psychometric theories: psychometricians use patterns of test performance as starting point to answer questions - measure psyche using psychometric testing. Sternberg"s theory of successful intelligence: successful intelligence: involves using one"s abilities skillfully to achieve personal goals. If view something as fluid and can be changed, will try harder. Infant tests do not reliably predict iq in later childhood, adolescence or adulthood. Iq scores obtained after 6yo are better predictors of later scores: what do scores predict, results of infant tests can identify children whose development is at risk. Early environment and mental development: high quality home environment: range of reaction (ex: iq) - look at environment, parent emotional and verbal responsiveness, parental acceptance, safe physical environment, appropriate play materials, parental involvement, variety, daily stimulation. For kids in lower ses not always have environment conforming to the above: head start programs to help low ses parents provide support for healthy development in their children.
