PSYC 311 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Experimental Psychology, Central Sulcus, Frontal Lobe
Document Summary
Conferences start on september 17th, location and time tbd. Trisana will teach the class on september 6th because the prof will be absent. The course pack differs every semester: make sure you do all the readings by comparing with the syllabus because the readings are on the final. Structure of the class: part 1: focuses on neuroanatomy and the function of the circuits, part 2: focuses on impact of lesions in the circuits. Peter milner and another found the location for deep reward in mice. By stimulating a certain section of the mice brain, they found the mice would get addicted to receiving the shock. Ex: removing hypothalamuses leads to anterograde amnesia. Lesions in left temporal lobe lead to language difficulties. Lesions in right temporal lobe leads to difficulty with tone in speech. Lesions to parietal lobe can lead to difficulty with spatial relationships. Brain has gyri and sulci: gyri are the ridges of the brain.
