PSYC 471 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Catholic Youth Organization (Cyo), Wesley Chu, Homeostasis
Document Summary
Now, ericsson differentiates purposeful practice and deliberate practice. In his previous research he combined the two. The new coach: they had to go to the basement gym, which sucked, but the coach focused on drills. Hardly scrimmaged at all: could barely play against each other. Involves feedback: getting out of your comfort zone, avoid homeostasis! Do something hard: deliberate practice: training activities designed to push you just beyond your current level. Video example of deliberate practice: drills, no shooting, no scrimmages. I am tired just watching them: one kid says when are we going to get to scrimmage . Intense coaching: my practices are not designed for your enjoyment , his practices are designed to help them improve by not being comfortable. There is no homeostasis in this video: you shouldn"t be playing the game more than 10% of the time; a good coach will focus on drills, playing games means you are just wasting your time.
